Sydnee Michaels shares first-round lead at Safeway Classic 2012
American Sydnee Michaels shot a superb 65 in the first round of Safeway Classic 2012 to share an early lead with Japanese Mika Miyazato who also registered a 65 on the leaderboard.
Michaels kicked off the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament at Pumpkin Ridge’s Ghost Creek Course in impressive style as she made perfect putts on almost all the holes on the first day.
The American star looked completely fired up as she sank a birdie on her first hole. Starting on the 10th,
Michaels drained four straight birdies, ramping up pressure on her rivals who struggled to remain in contention throughout the day.
On the 15th, the LPGA golfer impressed her fans once again and sank her fifth birdie. Getting off to a solid start gave Michaels plenty of confidence and she started playing her natural game on the
remaining holes.
The first hole saw her rattle off yet another birdie, which consolidated her position on the leaderboard. However, she faltered on the par-4 second hole and ended up carding a bogey. The bogey on the second
did not rattle Michaels as she already cemented her position on the leaderboard by shooting a series of birdies.
She received another round of applause from the spectators when she posted birdies on the seventh and ninth hole.
Michaels, who is relatively new on the LPGA Tour than most of her rivals in Safeway Classic 2012 roster, displayed a much better keeping all the contenders at a distance.
The rising star proved her mettle last week as she recorded her best finish at the Jamie Farr Toledo Classic 2012. She finished 21st at Ohio, which analyst said has helped her boost confidence.
Speaking to the media about her performance in the first round at Safeway Classic 2012, Michaels said that she is pretty happy after recording her best score in a professional tournament.
She said that she just played a natural game, and luckily did well. “It's been hit or miss," Michaels said. "I'll be in contention and I might have a little shaky Sunday, and wind up top 30 or something like
that or I'll miss the cut by one or two”.
