Question:

Sydney Holiday trip + Accomodation?

Hi, I am planning a backpacking trip to Sydney and I am wondering where is a good place to stay.

I am hoping to look for a place less than AUD40 per person per night, at a less noisy (pubs area) area, yet is assessible to transportation. A frd recommended me to stay at Manly, but i am afriad it is too far from City and will be away from the attractions in City.

Another question is, do I need to purchase day trips transport tickets? Are the places really far from each other?

thanks

  1. You're right. Manly is way too far from the city. Whatever you save on accomodation will be taken up by the extra cost of the ferry to the city each day.

I usually stay in Surry Hills at this place: http://www.hostelworld.com/availability....

You can book through the website there as well.

It's fairly clean and pretty quiet (see if you can get a room to the back of the building). Plus, it's only a 5 minute walk across Prince Alfred Park to Central Railway Station. It is the closest hostel to the city centre and attractions that isnt in a pub or club area.

As for transport: It is possible to walk around central Sydney, but things are a fairly good distance away from each other. For example: From the hostel I gave you, it would take perhaps 45 minutes to walk to Circular Quay (Opera House, Harbour Bridge), but the train does it in less than 10 minutes.

Personally, Id buy a rail ticket for the inner city at the very least.
