Question:

Sydney NRL supporters, what's wrong with you?

This has always confounded me. We're always seeing empty stadiums for NRL games played in Sydney. You have the largest population but you don't get out there and support it enough.

The Broncos are my team and Suncorp (which is the best large stadium to watch RL) never fails to pull a half decent crowd. It might not be fair to compare it Brissy as it's a 1 team town; so I'll compare it to AFL.

Victorians fill up the MCG and the Telstra Dome week in week out. Not just Victorians but the AFL teams in other states pull big crowds regularly too. What's going on Sydney-siders?

  1. Sydney is a discraced

  2. Im a huge cronulla sharks supporter, i have been to every home game this year apart from 4 which is a bad season for me i usually go to all. I work part time and i can hardly afford to go sometimes thats y alot of peps dont go cause of the pricing of the game and the times, they need to have saturday day games and more on telle. also as u said their is only one team in brissy as in sydney i live in the shire and theirs probs 3 teams i could support u cant compare it to the afl different sport and supporters and culture

    P.S AFL is S**t

  3. well alot of people like AFL and we have the most teams in sydney in Brisbane you only have one. so obviously we wouldnt get a big crowd at every game. at brookie we usually get a big crowd but thats just because its little. so anyway thats all i can think of saying i hope i answered the question ♥♥ Holly

  4. Sydney people have no idea about the passion surrounding AFL clubs, NRL people are seduced by State of Origin whilst Victorians live and breathe Club Footy, most Vic clubs have 40,000 members! something NRL can only dream about!!

  5. Why go to the game an freeze an spend a fortune when ya can stay home an watch it live for free by the fire. The Nrl has to make it cheeper fo families.

  6. why do we need to go to the games your the ones who have a problem with it

  7. There is NOTHING wrong with us. Sydney is huge and it's sometimes hard to get to a stadium which is far away. For example having to go to ANZ Stadium in Homebush for every home game is RIDICULOUS. For someone who lives in the Eastern Suburbs, having to make the 1.5 hour treck to homebush every second weekend is a bit much of an ask.

  8. why does everyone compare the afl crowds to the nrl crowds

yes we all know that afl gets much bigger crowds

    get over it

    they are two different sports

so why can't everyone just get that and stop comparing them...

  9. Well Sydney siders dont turn out 4 any sport. Also, watching NRL on tv is wat most ppl prefer 2 do because its great 2 watch on tv because u can see every player all the time unlike AFL u can only see a handful of players on the tv screen so goin 2 a AFL ground 2 watch is much more beneficial

  10. i am a sydney roosters fan. but i can't go 2 evey single game!

i understand what your getting at, but you also have to understand that petrol prices are going up, there might be and intertest rate and so fourth.

people right now can't afford to go to the footy game.

it costs money, so people are standing home and watching it on the "free screen".

  11. I agree with 'Greg Inglis!! I salute you!!'. If you want to watch the game NRL is better on TV. Going to the game is great for atmosphere but you miss alot of the game.

For me, the timing and location of the games fail to work in my favour. I'm a Dragons supporter from Wollongong and am lucky to make it to more then 2 home games a season. It doesnt help that our 'home' games are shared with oki jubilee either. The days often don't work for me or the times. Its not so easy to drive up to Sydney for the game.

It also costs a bit more to go watch a NRL game compared to an AFL game.

I think Monday night footy is a stupid idea. Very few people can get to the games on a Monday night, especially the ones at ANZ stadium and unless you have pay TV you can't watch the games. You can't really go to a mates place on a Monday night just to watch the game.

  12. I'm not Sydney sider. (thank god) but have been to both games in Sydney and in Brisbane.

watching games in Brisbane (sun corp) is awesome. the crowd are great the atmosphere is fantastic.

watched games in Sydney three times including a grand final I've  never go again. atmosphere is c**p and the crowd are to busy trying pick fights with each other to actually watch the game.the transport out on the trains is h**l. Sydney you can burn in h**l. go TITIAN'S
