Sydney Pickrem seizes Women’s 200m IM gold – Australian Youth Olympic Festival
Sydney Pickrem of Canada seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on last day of the 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival at Berkeley Aquatic Club, on Sunday, January 20, 2013.
The Canadian swimmer devastated hopes of her opponents in the four lap discipline and with her alluring efforts, she tapped the wall for the title.
She faced tough competition from her toughest competitor in the start but with her unrelenting efforts, she managed to secure gold medal of the event.
She remained only an inch ahead of her closest competitor and surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 15.15 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Yui Ohashi of Japan, who stayed only 0.06 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 15.21 seconds.
Third spot of the event was obtained by Hayley Baker of Australia Green, who was 0.67 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall by producing a time of 2 minutes and 15.88 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Dalma Sebestyen of Hungary, who stayed 0.06 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end for fourth place by producing a time of 2 minutes and 15.94 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Chihiro Igarashi of Japan, who stayed 0.11 seconds slower and surfaced on the wall by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 16.05 seconds.
Igarashi was trailed by Tianni Gilmour of Australia Green, who stayed more than a body length behind and touched the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 17.28 seconds.
Gilmour was traced by Meg Bailey of Australia Gold, who was nearly one second behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 18.03 seconds.
Bailey was traced by Sara Joo of Hungary, who was unable to upset any of her opponents and finished her race in eighth place by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 18.57 seconds.
In addition, Pickrem received a huge appreciation from the audience for her commendable pace and stepped on the victory stand for gold medal after the event.
