Sydney Sixers v Titans – Champions League Twenty20 2012 – Semi-Final – Sydney Sixers bowlers to watch out for [Part 1]
Powering their way through the ongoing Champions League Twenty20 in South Africa on a steady winning streak, the Sydney Sixers are currently the most dominant team in the competition, and will be facing the Titans for the second semi-final of the CLT20,
due to be played on October 26 at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
The team made it into the CLT20 after being crowned champions of the inaugural edition of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s Big Bash League, 2011/2012, during which the team won 7 of their 9 matches, including the tournament final against the Perth Scorchers on January 28, 2012.
The Sixers have carried the same momentum into the CLT20, in which they are currently unbeaten, having won all four of their group stage matches – against the Chennai Super Kings, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians.
While the Sixers have been acknowledged as a well-oiled, all-round unit, their pace attack has been their primary strength throughout the competition, with many going on to compare it to the bowling attacks of international-standard teams. Initially comprising
experienced all-rounder and formidable right-arm medium-pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558, alongside fiery young Australian quicks, the team was forced to let Watson go, mid-competition, after he was ordered to return to Australia to train for the national team’s upcoming
summer.
However, even without http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326, the Sixers’ bowling attack poses a daunting challenge for any team’s batsmen in the competition – the team’s bowlers have taken a total of 32 wickets from 4 matches in the tournament so far, and 31 of these wickets have been
claimed by the pacers.
Due to face the Titans on a track which is expected to offer a fair amount of pace and bounce, the Sixers’ young pacers are bound to prove a force to reckon with. While every player in the team has chipped in with vital contributions, the attack possesses
a few stand-out bowlers who will be expected to lead the charge.
Mitchell Starc
Australia’s top bowler from their challenging tour of the UAE against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Aaron-Starc-c76392 has gone on to emerge
as one of Australia’s most promising young pace prospects, and is under consideration for the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in November.
With 46 T20s, and 81 wickets to his credit, Starc is fast rising on the international scene, and his presence in the Sydney Sixers’ line-up has done nothing but benefit the team. Starc played a vital role for the Sixers during their Big Bash League campaign,
and finished as the top wicket-taker for the team, and the third-highest overall wicket-taker in the tournament, with 13 scalps from 6 matches at an average of 13.53, and an economy rate of 8.18.
The left-arm pacer has continued in a similar vein for the team in their CLT20 campaign, during which he is currently the top wicket-taker, not only for the Sixers, but in the entire tournament, with 11 scalps from 4 matches, at an average of 9.45, and an
economy rate of 6.50. Having established himself as the spearhead of the Sixers’ pace attack, Starc will undoubtedly be looking to put the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Titans-c856’ batsmen in a tight spot as the Sixers look to make it into the final of the ongoing CLT20.
