Sydney Wilson beats Robert Valiant to set up a Round 2 clash with Shahram Changezi at Q School Event 3
Englishman, Sydney Wilson set up a tie against Shahram Changezi in the second round of the Qualifying School (Q School) Event 3 after he grabbed a 4-3 victory against compatriot, Robert Valiant. The tournament is under way at the World Snooker Academy in
Sheffield and will end on Saturday, May 28.
The match was a tussling encounter that ended in a decider frame with Wilson as the winner. The 27-year-old Valiant got off the mark with the first frame victory at 4-81 after he potted a sensational clearance of 75 to take an early 0-1 lead in the game.
A stunning reply from the Southend-on-Sea potter, Wilson, brought the score line at 1-1 when he pocketed a rattling knock of 83 to clinch the second frame by 91-5. The Essex-based cueman, Wilson, got a one-frame lead with 2-1 as he took the third frame with
a convincing frame score of 64-5.
The scoreboard showed 2-2 after the English cueist, Valiant, won the fourth frame 0-79 smashing a 72-point break. Both cuemen were not missing a single chance to edge past each other in the match as they were putting everything they had in their cue stick
to move forward.
The 21-year-old young Wilson had to bounce back again to make his presence felt at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. He cued a superb half-century knock of 55 in the fifth frame and snatched it with 73-49 to move within one frame lead again in the
match.
The youngster, Wilson, made a half-century run of 56 points in the sixth frame but it could not help him win the match as a couple of small breaks from his opponent, Valiant, brought him down at 58-72 and Valiant pushed the match into a decider frame.
The final frame was a thrilling battle between both cuemen as they tussled at the table in a see-saw manner but Wilson made it in the end with a 68-59 frame victory to win the match by 4-3. Wilson will now face an emerging snooker star from Pakistani, Shahram
Changezi, in the second round of the World Snooker Q School 2011 Event three on Thursday, May 26 at the same arena.
