Does Sydney get as cold as Melbourne does during winter or is there a perceptible difference? Also is it generally very windy in Sydney?

  1. Sydney temperatures dont vary as much as those in Melbourne. In general its only really the nights that its noticable cold, though you get your occasional weird weather days. I wouldnt say thats its more windy in Sydney then it is anywhere else.

This should give you an idea: http://www.sydney.com.au/weather.htm Remember, the coldest times are at night or first thing in the morning when your usually asleep. Sydney is generally warmer in winter then Melbourne, Melb can be freeezing.

  2. Sydney is generally about 2-3 degrees warmer than Melbourne. In terms of wind, there's not really that much difference. Sydney actually gets about twice the rainfall than Melbourne, but on average it rains less days per year. So if you like your heavy, serious rain with a little more warmth, Sydney's prob better for you. But hey, Melbourne is worth bearing a little more drizzle and changeable temperatures for everything else it offers (where'm I from??)!

  3. Yes, it is cold in Sydney in the winter as Melbourne.  I would definitely recommend wearing layers if you are going on to the harbour at night, that is from experience.  I was in both cities plus Cairns, which was warmer.......   But their was a little difference between Melbourne and Sydney, so dress the same.

  4. Sydney is warmer than Melbourne mainly due to the humidity levels temp wise its usually 2-6 deg warmer than Melbourne

Sydney has way more rain and wet weather than Melbourne
