Question:

Sydney inner west?

Can someone tell me why Lakemba, Campsie and Belmore are cheaper (for housing) than Croydon and Ashfield in Sydney's inner west? Is there any problem with these suburbs or are they fine for families to live in? Thanks

Any other good and not too expensive suburbs you know of in this area?

  1. You would have to pay ME to live in Lakemba.

  2. There's more community housing in Lakemba, Campsie & Belmore than Ashfield & Croydon.

If you can afford it, Croydon is one of the most under rated suburbs in Sydney.  Good location to everything, nice and quiet, good solid houses very safe by big city standards.

Not forgetting the best Pizza place in Sydney, Mario's Pizza.

I lived in Croydon for a number of years with my Brother and I loved it.  If I was in a good financial position at the time, I'd have loved to buy the place.  Not to be.

    Croydon is great.

  3. Technically, Lakemba, Belmore and Campsie belongs to a another region called the "south-west" since they are a bit south of the "Inner West" but they are sometimes considered to be part of that region too.

I live in this area (Canterbury/Bankstown) and the reason the housing is cheaper is because of the crime levels. The south-west region is the most dangerous area in Sydney, particularly the outer suburbs in this region such as Cabramatta and Campbelltown. However, the assumption of danger is not true as most the time, it only exists in certain streets.

Whichever agent who is advertising these areas as the "Inner-West" is lying in some ways. This is something you should look out for.

  4. Ashfield has some older houses that are popular with renovators and can be quite cute so demand is higher than say Lakemba where housing is quite ordinary suburban.

Plus as stated there is a perception of higher crime rate in the cheaper suburbs due to well publicised gang activity in the past.

I am not sure where you wish to look as Lakemba, Campsie etc would not be considered inner west. A little further afield would be Padstow, south-west suburb,  which is quite nice and closer to town I would look at Bardwell Park but do not know how they compare price wise.

Previous poster mentioned the shire which is the Sutherland Cronulla area. Further from town that inner west (actually south) but is an ideal district to raise children.

  5. I doubt you'd have any trouble living in Lakemba, Campsie and Belmore,

but the reason is mostly down to smaller/older homes and the fact that there is a bit more crime there.

  6. ahaha...dont listen to that guy! stay away from the shire!! usually the reason place are cheaper are because they are not desirable places to live, whether that be purely because of location, or violence/gangs etc. are involved in those areas.

  7. wow, do u want to get shot. Lakemba, Belmore, Ashfield. You are one ballsy dude.

Move to the Shire, it's great!

  8. Check out Parramatta..... its very family friendly and has reasonable house prices that vary from cheap to expensive.

To get a profile of suburbs around sydney check out this site. Its great!!!!!

www.cityhobo.com.au or www.cityhobo.com (not sure which one it is)

And to take a look at some houses

    www.realestate.com.au

I say Parramatta is the best. It has everything you need and more. Schools, employment, good housing, proximity to the city, public transport and on and on and on! Big shopping centre too!
