  1. There's no place in the world like Sydney; it's a cosmopolitan world city surrounded by the iconic beaches. World heritage area, lush hinterland and acclaimed wine regions of the state of NSW................love it!!

  2. I don't live in either but have spent a lot of time in both (born in Melbourne, but left there in 1974), so my view is relatively unbiased.

IMO, Melbourne wins hands down as the better place to live. The weather in Melbourne isn't nearly as bad a people say it is, and the other answerers point about humidity is spot on. Sydney's humidity is dreadful and is much worse than in Brisbane where I live.

Melbourne CBD is awesome with so much character and so easy to get around. Public transport is excellent, the shopping is the best in Australia and so is the dining out. Nightlife is on a par with Sydney and if you're into culture or sport, Melbourne is the place to be. Cost of living there is lower than Sydney as well.

    Definitely Melbourne.

  3. To live... definitely sydney

its gud to visit melbourne though

  4. For me... it's Melbourne all the way.  And it has nothing to do with the supposed rivalry between the two cities.  I (personally) can't abide humidity, and Sydney's weather (in summer) is icky, sticky, sweaty.  Melbourne's summer heat is much drier.

But if you don't give a toss one way or the other about the weather, then it comes down to whether you prefer fast-paced, ritzy-glitzy Sydney or the more formal sophistication of Melbourne.  Both cities have their good points and bad.  They both have their fair share of great restaurants, nightclubs, and sporting venues.  Sydney's got the Hunter Valley; Melbourne's got the Yarra Valley.  Sydney's got Thredbo; Melbourne's got Falls Creek.  Sydney's got The Harbour; Melbourne's got The Bay.  Both cities are equal in my opinion... just different.

  5. I'd rather live in Melbourne, coz there is an airport, and is quite conveniently actually.

  6. Sydney because I love circular quay, the botanic gardens and the beaches.

  7. Melbourne. When they built that city they used their brains, they thought things through and they applied logic.

Wish I could say the same for Sydney.
