Sydney orchestra faked 2000 Olympics performance!!?

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - China isn't the only country to fake a musical performance during an Olympic opening ceremony. Turns out Australia knows a thing about miming music, too.

Eight years after Sydney hosted the 2000 Summer Olympics, officials with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra acknowledged their stirring performance at the opening ceremony was entirely prerecorded. And perhaps even more cringe-inducing for Sydney residents: some of the music was recorded by the symphony of rival city Melbourne..........

Yes they did, and i am sure that every singer was miming during both the opening and closing that is how these events are run Barcelona Atlanta and Athens as well) It is ridiculous that the girl miming in the opening in beijing attracted so much attention though i don't understand why the Chinese did not try and find someone who was both good looking and a good singer.

I think that the Sydney Symphony orchestra were annoyed by thisridiculouss outrage and have gone in to bat for the Chinese organisers. good on them

Personally i don't see what was wrong with that. They just wanted to present "the best" show for everyone to enjoy and i think the word "fake" is totally the wrong word to use here. Yes , i agree with the above answerer, not only Beijing and Sydney but most or even all the cities. After seeing how Beijing was criticised for her "fakeness", Sydney has come to her conscience and revealed the truth. Kudos to Beijing and Sydney , at least they had the guts to tell the truth eventhough the revelation was a little late but hey , it's always to be late than never.

There are people who do things and people who sit on their asses and complain.

The Olympics spirit encourages the world to come together to participate and compete in a friendly environment and hopefully, for a moment, we can all leave behind the bitterness of our modern world and cheer our best sportsmen.Somehow the least impressive specimens of humankind can still find fault where and when they choose to.

The Beijing Olympics were fantastic and so were the ones in Sydney, Barcelona and many others. There were no really bad ones but some were deprived of their full grandeur due to boycotts.

Even in near perfect organization, the Western media made a meal of the host. Firstly it was about disruption of the Olympic torch relay for political reasons, then it was about pollution that never became a factor. When that also did not hold water, the Media made accusations of fakeness when they do not understand how major entertainment events are really organized.

I find it amazing that this was even an issue. However what is heart warming was another former host city coming to the defense of Beijing by saying they did that too - 8 years ago. This really shut the armchair critics up and they can now go back to complaining about other things in their sordid lives.
