I read somewhere that if one chooses to live in Sydney, one should avoid the western or southern suburbs. Is this true and if so why? I was considering Merrylands or Granville but after reading this I'm a bit worried. Please advice, thks

  1. It doesnt matter where you live, there will always be a few scum bags around.

I grew up in Blacktown and later moved to Castle Hill.

Although Castle Hill was a much nicer suburb,  I was burgled once in both places.  The theives that burgled me both times came from Mt Druitt. Further west of Blacktown.

I now live at Port Stephens and guess what, there are bogans from Penrith everywhere here!

Merrylands and Granville are similar to Blacktown.  In all suburbs there are good streets and bad streets.

  2. Those regions have the highest crime levels in all of Sydney, in particular the south-west and the far west. Merrylands and Granville, I won't worry so much. It is areas such as Cabramatta, Liverpool and Blacktown which should be of a concern. The reason so is because I think of the poor employment and incomes rates which lead to people to commit crime.

    The inner-west, however is great.

    Hops this helps.

  3. No, not granville .. That place has alot of trouble as someone already said.

I live in the south west suburbs. And it is considered a bad place.. I've been in the western suburbs alot, and lived there for a while.. Never had any problems..

But there are better places.. but more expensive..

Its just that the crime rate is a little bit higher than the rest.. But it will be rare to have your house broken into..

Merrylands High School was in lock down the other day, some stupid teenagers had machetes and stuff. it was on the news.

  4. They are very high crime. The suburbs to avoid are:

Redfern, Auburn, Cronulla, Lakemba, Bankstown, Wiley Park, Mt Druitt, St Marys, Penrith, Blacktown, Springwood, Katoomba and Cabramatta.

  5. No!!!

I'm in Merrylands and this suburb is fantastic. I've lived here for the past 4 years and we haven't had much trouble - though someone did try and steal my mags a couple of weeks ago. Haha.

The Police here are very helpful and friendly so if you did have problems...

Btw, I wouldn't suggest Granville because there's always problems happening down there.
