Syed Modi International: Fran Kurniawan and Shendy Puspa Irawati land a title berth
Indonesia’s Fran Kurniawan and Shendy Puspa Irawati continued their impressive performance and landed a title berth after defeating Korea’s Ji Wook Kang and Seung Chan Shin in Mixed Doubles semi-final at Syed Modi International India GPG 2012 on Saturday,
December 22, in India.
Kurniawan and Shendy, who are the second seeded players in Mixed Doubles draw of the tournament, played to their maximum potential and remained successful in beating their un-seeded Korean rivals in just 27 minutes.
Indonesian shuttlers displayed their highly elevated skills in the arena and they managed to overpower their Korean opponents in straight games with a superb margin on the score board.
On the other hand, the un-seeded Ji Wook and Seung Chan could not put up strong show as they failed to live up to the expectations and eventually crashed out without even getting close on the board.
In the starting set, the confident Kurniawan and Shendy delivered a spectacular feat in the arena as they executed shots with impressive variations from initial rallies.
Kurniawan and Shendy showed that they at the top of their form as they displayed their attacking skills on court and remained successful in taking a strong domination on court.
Until the end of starting half of starting game, the incredible Kurniawan and Shendy attained a strong position on board by setting up a comfortable lead.
The underdog Ji Wook and Seung Chan could not create trouble for their higher ranked Indonesian rivals after the mid-game interval as they lost their focus on court.
Meanwhile, it was a smooth ride for the in-form Kurniawan and Shendy who did not face any reasonable resistance from their Korean challengers and won the first set with a stunning 21-14 difference on the board.
Ji Wook and Seung Chan worked hard to play positive badminton in starting half of second set but they could not create pressure on their Indonesian rivals who were quite positive on court.
Until the end of first half, the impressive Kurniawan and Shendy continued playing with control and variations and remained ahead on the board.
After the break, Indonesian shuttlers maintained their supremacy by playing attacking badminton and easily grabbed the second set with a big margin of 21-17.
Kurniawan and Shendy remained successful in winning this semi-final clash in straight sets by a wonderful 21-14 and 21-17 score on the board.
