Syed Modi International: Pratul Joshi beats Taufik Hidayat to create biggest upset of his career
Pratul Joshi, who is one of the most promising players of India, stole the limelight as he created the biggest upset by defeating the top seeded Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia in Men’s Singles first round of Syed Modi International India GPG 2012 in Lucknow,
on Wednesday, December 19.
The un-seeded Pratul, who has been showing a steady determination in training sessions for the last couple of years, played to his maximum potential and remained successful in crushing the World Number 11 Taufik in a completely dominating manner.
Indian youngster was in smashing form as he played with incredible speed in all areas of the court and remained successful in beating his experienced opponent in straight sets with a dominating margin on the game.
On the other hand, the former Olympic Champion Taufik was not comfortable in his movement as he was lacking the speed and finishing touch in his shots. He crashed out without proving his worth in the arena.
Pratul performed remarkably well from the opening rallies of first game as he played with incredible speed and grabbed the control.
Indian shuttler was quite comfortable in picking the bird quite early and he kept his rival moving in all corners of the court.
The in-form Pratul advanced with a terrific speed in the first half and stayed ahead on score board until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Pratul stayed focused on court and remained successful in maintaining a comfortable gap.
Pratul remained consistent in executing powerful shots in targeted areas and eventually bagged the opening game with a staggering margin of 21-17.
In the following game, the higher ranked Taufik was again in problem he faced a hostile treatment from his challenger who was at his best on court.
On the other hand, Pratul displayed spirited display of attacking badminton by picking the bird early from all areas and kept his domination over his challenger.
Pratul continued putting up staggering show in the ending part of second game and remained successful in securing the game with a superb margin of 21-12.
The local shuttler registered a spectacular victory over Taufik in straight games with a completely controlled 21-17 and 21-12 score on the board.
