Sylvain Chavanel claimed the second overall spot during the Dwars Door Vlaanderen
After a tremendous start to its 2012 season, Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step is currently eyeing the Tour of Flanders to fill its bag with yet another victory in the young season.
The team has performed exceptionally well during the previous editions of the Belgian cobbles classics and is determined prove its mettle at the 2012 version of the race.
Niki Terpstra helped the team at the Dwars Door Vlaanderen and is looking good to help the team with yet another victory in the season.
Levi Leipheimer helped the team with an overall win during the Tour de San Luis and also succeeded at the 3rd and the 4th stages of the race.
Francesco Chicchi and Tom Boonen also claimed stages to help the team with a perfect start to its 2012 campaign.
Tom Boonen grabbed his first overall victory at the Tour of Qatar along with the first and the fourth stage win to further strengthened the team’s position.
Chavanel skipped the Milan-San Remo to ensure his peak form for the bigger goals of the season.
His decision has clearly paid off after the second place finish during the Belgian race.
He cited, “I think I took the right decision not to ride Milan-San Remo and take care of my bronchitis".
"I wasn’t quite 100%, but from talking in the peloton I could see that there were quite a few riders in the peloton who were ill".
Nikki Terpstra of Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step claimed the first position. He finished the 200 kilometre stage in a fastest time of 4 hours, 29 minutes and 36 seconds.
Sylvain Chavanel finished 47 seconds behind at the second position with Koen De Kort, Jan Ghyselinck and Alexandre Pichot at the third, the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
He briefed after the race, “I just controlled behind in the finale. I was a bit worried that he might have gone too far from the line because there was the Paterberg to come afterwards too”.
Sylvain will now ride the Gent-Wevelgem and the E3 Harelbeke to ensure to fill his appetite for the 2012 seasons.
