Sylvain Distin insists Everton will move up the table
Everton defender Sylvain Distin has claimed that the struggling side will turn around their disastrous early season form. Rooted at the bottom of the table and still winless after six
opening games, the Merseysiders need a change in fortune if they are to mount a challenge for Europe.
But despite languishing at the bottom of the Premier League ladder, Distin insists the wins will come, and that the goalless draw at Fulham over the weekend was a step in the right direction.
“We are still looking for our first win, but instead of thinking about what we should have done, I'm going to focus on the positives, the clean sheet and a point in a stadium where it's not easy to play,” the former Portsmouth and Manchester City defender
told Everton TV.
A first clean sheet of the season is certainly a place to start, but the lack of a goalscorer is still holding the Toffees back. Louis Saha can fill the void, but his injury record doesn't
make him reliable enough. Distin was quick to point out the lack of cutting edge on the team with, “I don't think we're a bad side, and I don't think we were out-played (at Fulham), but the final pass and the final chance wasn't there,” he said.
"If we keep working the way we did, you can have two consecutive wins, and then you're in the top half of the table, so that's why I don't think it's time to panic yet,” he continued.
The Frenchman is correct in that assessment, but the team needs to start finding their stride soon, otherwise their season will quickly turn into a rescue mission, rather a hopeful campaign towards the top six.
