  1. I actually worked there for awhile after I taught school during the day and I'm a Special Education teacher. It's quite expensive at about $60 per hour.  (Teachers paid $11-13 of that-Sylvan is making money hand over fist!) Basically your child won't be getting one-on-one attention. They are usually there in a table of 2-4 students. It was difficult trying to help everyone at the same time in the short time span of an hour. It's basically practice in areas your child is deficient-workbook material. I'd say save you money and hire a private tutor for your child. Then your child will get the needed one-on-one attention and can go at the pace your child can learn.

  2. I've never seen a parent happy with the results at Sylvan Learning Center. Curriculum and sequencing is based nationally rather than locally.  (Big differences can occur!) Teachers are poorly trained.  Many have little to no formal teaching experience and you are working with a child that is already behind.

Instead,  I would approach your child's teacher to see if she or he has colleagues that teach in the same grade level and subject matter and would provide private tutoring.  Since your child's teacher can not provide the tutoring, this may be the best way to receive quality instruction.

  3. 1000 dollars my teacher told me.
