Sylvia Fowles erupts with 28 as Chicago Sky beat San Antonio Silver Stars 85-73– WNBA Recap (Part 1)
Last time when Sylvia Fowles scored 28 points against the Minnesota Lynx on Friday night, Chicago Sky just failed cross the line. Fowles was aghast at the end of that game.
Unluckily for the San Antonio Silver Stars, the 6 ft 6 in centre decided to unleash her fury on them.
Fowles again erupted with a game high 28 points on a 12 of 16 shooting from the floor and also clutched 17 rebounds across the board to lead Chicago Sky to an 85-73 win over the Silver Stars.
This was only the second win for Chicago in the last six games, while the Silver Stars continued their downward trend and slipped their fifth game in the last seven.
Sky coach Pokey Chatman was all praise for her centre after the game. ``She did it early, she did it in the middle, she did it late. When she couldn't do it, she snatched some boards.''
Tamera Young was the second lead scorer for Chicago for the second game running.
``She just had a monster game,'' Tamera Young said about Charles, who has scored in double figures in 58 consecutive games. ``We'd take jump shots and miss, and she'd just go in and clean up the boards, just going to work.''
She scored 15 points for Chicago, who are 11-14 now, while Michelle Snow finished the night on11 points.
The Silver Stars were led by Jia Perkins, who came off the bench to score 18 points on a 7 of 13 shooting. Sophia Young had 16 points and 6 rebounds in nearly 34 minutes of action. Becky Hammon had a 4 of 11 shooting night for
14 points while Scholanda Robinson scored 10 for San Antonio, which beat Chicago 84-74 on June 28.
Chicago outplayed the Silver Stars in nearly all facets of the game. They out rebounded San Antonio45-22 on the boards; thrashed them 46-24 on the points in the paint and shot at 48.5 percent from the field as compared to 41.5
percent from the Silver Stars.
They however did commit 18 turnovers as compared to 10 by the Silver Stars and also lost on the assists 22-18.
