Sylvia Fowles erupts with 28 as Chicago Sky beat San Antonio Silver Stars 85-73– WNBA Recap (Part 2)
Sylvia Fowles was in her zone right from the tip off. She pounded six consecutive points to start the game as Chicago Sky asserted their dominance early with a 8 point unanswered run inside the first three and a half minutes of
play. Sophia Young finally managed to put an end to the one way traffic at the 6:28 mark when she converted two shots from the charity stripe.
The San Antonio Silver Stars committed three turnover and missed all of their three field goal attempts before that. It got much worse after that. They missed another four attempts at the rim in the next two minutes as Chicago
held on a to a 10-3 lead. Jia Perkins eventually broke the cold shooting spell with a three point plat and Becky Hammon followed her with a layup to make 8-10.
Chicago who themselves committed four turnovers and three missed shots after taking the 8-0 lead were finally keyed by Fowles with 3:12 to go, when she made a layup to make it 12-8. He shot initiated a 10-4 run that took Sky to
a 20-12 advantage at the end of first quarter.
Silver Stars continued to misfire from the floor as Sky took their lead to 25-14 early in the frame. However, they also struggled to covert after that as the game remained scoreless for the next 1:37. It was Fowles again, who broke
the dry spell with a putback layup with 6:53 to go in the break.
Jia Perkins responded for the Silver Stars with a four point play and Tamera Young three point play later, Robinson made a layup to bring the deficit down to 30-20.
However Fowles again took the game in her hand and scored six points in a 8-0 stretch that pushed Chicago’s lead to 18. The Silver Stars got it going after that. But Chicago countered all their shots and the first half ended with
the score at 47-29.
Sky totally dominated the Silver Stars in the first half. With Fowles scoring 22 points and grabbing 12 boards, they outrebounded the Silver Stars 28-8 and held them to 29 percent shooting from the field.
