  1. The Great goddess was likely an Earth goddess and not related to the moon directly.

Ancient mounds and Kergans symbolize her womb into which the dead were placed for rebirth. Most mounds has a standing stone outside the entrance as a phallic image for a new conception.

Some mounds also had a smalled standing stone just inside the entrance, a clitoric image also to help rebirth along.

The moos was also a constant reminder of rebirth as it went through its phases.

  2. The ancients likened the phases of the moon (waxing, full, waning) to the life of the Goddess (Maiden, Mother, Crone) and to the neverending cycle of birth, death, and rebirth in Nature.

  3. Not in the space I have here.  I can recommend a book that does a very good job, but takes many pages and a few diagrams.  Look for Mysteries of the Dark Moon by Demetra George.  Based on the questions you have been asking, this book would be very beneficial to you.

Don't let the title throw you off, it's not about dark magic, or evil spells.  Here is the link to the customer reviews who are much more expressive than I.
