Question:

Symbolism of crows flying overhead

I was laying outside the other night and black crows, or perhaps even blackbirds, flew over my body in the shape of a "U". There was probably around 7 or 9 of them. For some reason, I recalled that this was bad luck and was a symbol of death. Is this true? When I got in my car to drive home, the song that was playing on the radio when I got into the car was "Knockin on Heaven's Door" by Guns N Roses. I'm a firm believer in signs. Should I be worried?

  1. Once again it really means nothing... It all started when Crows or magpies flew of the area where there was death on a battle field.... But in reality it really means nothing.............

  2. It doesn't mean squat.

Crows don't fly in groups, so it wasn't crows.

  3. It is the people created signs that worry me,

the natural signs like the crows over head

    I'd check around a bit,

normally Birds do not fly around at  night

except for geese during migration.and midges.

  4. In most cultures Ravens or Crows are seen as good omens, godly and even the creator of man. Ravens are even depicted as kings. I wouldnt be worried.

Crows do appear in groups. A group of crows is called a murder.

  5. I have heard crows can be sent by loved ones who have passed on.

Does anyone come to mind that may want to tell you that they are Okay?

  6. nah. dont live your life in fear.

  7. It means head to the nearest car wash because it's a good bet with that many birds flyin' overhead it's gonna get crapped on.

  8. In some cultures, it is a symbol of death- in others, no meaning, and still others, a good omen. Some Native American groups consider them seers and holders of wisdom or knowledge.

As far as superstition goes, if you're going to be worried, you're going to be worried, and me yakking common sense at you isn't going to help. Personally, I enjoy the birds. They're incredibly intelligent, belonging to the same family as jays and magpies, and can learn behavior and are quite curious.

I live in an area where they roost every night, and after 6 years, I'm still healthy, alive and kicking. Don't trip. It's just a bunch of birds.

As far as the song goes, it's an the frickin' radio all the time. DJ's have no imagination.
