Symetra Tour: Top ten players make it to 2013 LPGA lineup
With the 2012 Symetra Tour done and dusted, ten players have been given exempt status for the upcoming LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) season.
The ten players, who also include stars like American Esther Choe and Victoria Elizabeth, grabbed the top-ten positions on the money list.
Choe topped the money list, having taken part in six tournaments. She earned a whopping $55,690.00. On the other hand, last-year money winner, Paola Moreno, grabbed the second position this time.
Other players making it to the 2013 LPGA Tour lineup are Thidapa Suwanupura, Daniela Iacobelli, Mi Hyang Lee, Jenny Gleason, Julia Boland, Nicole Smith and Sara-Maude Juneau.
LPGA Director, Mike Whan, said in his interview that the participation of new faces to the Toru next year will be good for players and the sport alike.
Whan stressed that new players pay more attention to Symetra Tour as it provides a platform to advance their career to new heights.
“We see the Symetra Tour as the best pathway for up-and-coming female professionals to earn their way to the LPGA Tour,” said the Director who is believed to have revived the LPGA Tour in the recent past.
Whan has expanded the influence of LPGA far beyond the United States and Europe, focusing more on Asian countries in order to lure new faces to the sport.
Similarly, the Symetra Tour has also seen some much-needed developments in the recent past.
“By offering 10 exempt spots, we are solidifying the Symetra Tour as the proving ground for the LPGA and creating what amounts to a year-long battle to see which 10 players will earn equal playing status on next year’s LPGA Tour,” Whan said.
Choe, who has been confident throughout the 2012 Symetra Tour season, said in her recent interview that she has been satisfied with her performance and will try to keep the momentum going in the LPGA events as well.
Speaking of her renewed putting and swing, the American star said that she has worked hard on every aspect of her game, and has seen some good results. She said that her swing is now more refined than ever before and she can display a perfect game on the greens.
