Question:

Sync ipod in another computer?

When I plug it in to sync my ipod in my new computer, I get an error message telling me that my IPOD is sync'd to another library, and offers the option to cancel or to erase and resync to my existing library. If I try to erase and resync, itunes goes into non responding mode. Have the same problem if I try to restore the ipod. Can't seem to get anywhere.

  1. itune blocks this function since itune is the tool with one way to transfer files from itune to ipod. you must utilize other tools to achieve that. There're couple of tools for transferring the files between ipod and computer (for backup)depends on your demands, e.g transfer only songs/videos, transfer photos etc. You can have a look of below review site, hope it useful.

  2. THIS IS NOT a PROBLEM - it what the IPOD is designed for!

ITUNES is the master player and the ipod is a slave that can only be PAIRED to one computer at a time.

YOU NEED to PAIR the ipod with the computer before you can do anything with it. there is a "do you want to pair question and if you say NO then there's not much you can do with the ipod as it doesn't belong to that computer'

When you PAIR an iPod with a computer it erases all songs on it!!! and deletes pairing with original computer.

    Sharing music is also illegal!

You cannot transfer music from an ipod to itunes as Itunes is the MASTER location of the music files. if you NEED to transfer music form your ipod to the computer as you have lost the original you need a 3rd party application (I use Yamipod for mac) but a whole range can be found on www.versiontracker.com and enter ipod transfer in the search box under your operating system.

once you have the utility installed run it and close itunes! connect the ipod (if itunes starts up and asks if you want to pair say NO and close itunes again). then with the utility transfer the songs form the ipod to your hard disk.

Then disconnect the ipod, START itunes... drop the files you have just transferred onto the itunes Library and once the files have been copied into the library you can delete the originals (NEVER MOVE or touch the itunes folder on your computer otherwise you will lose the music let itunes manage it for you).

Now reconnect the ipod and when it asks pair say YES and it will transfer the music to your computer.

if doing this with 2 computers you have to do this on both!!

  3. You can manage your iPod with different computers as long as the computers are running the same operating system (Mac OS X or Windows) and you have set the iPod to "Manually manage music."

    taken from Apple's website: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202

  4. change the itunes setting to manual. then it wont bring up that option.

  5. heres how without any downloads (e-mail me if you have troble)

    STEP 1:

    - Plug in your iPod. iTunes should open up. If not, then open it how you normally open. Wait until it connects with the iPod.

    STEP 2:

    - A message will pop up and ask if you want to erase this iPod and sync with the iTunes library (or sometimes it asks if you want to transfer your music). Click Cancel.

    STEP 3:

    - Make sure you are on the iPod Options page (your iPod should pop up under Devices; click on it). Make sure the box that says "Enable disk use" is CHECKED.

    STEP 4:

    - Exit iTunes. Don't eject it, though.

    STEP 5:

    - Go to your iTunes music folders. (It's usually located in Start > My Documents > My Music > iTunes.) Delete the XML and ITL files.

    STEP 6:

    - Go to Start > My Computer. Then click on Tools > Folder Options > the "View" tab. In Advanced Settings (under Files and Folders) click "Show hidden files and folders". Then click OK.

    STEP 7:

    - Go to Start > My Computer. Click on your iPod (for instance, mine says "VICKY'S IPOD (:F)". See the slightly see-through iPod_Control folder? Right click on it and scroll down to "Send to ... " and pick My Documents. NOTE: You can save it anywhere on your computer, but to make it easy I'm just going to pick a spot for you.

    STEP 8:

    - It will take a few minutes to copy everything. When it's done, unhide the iPod_Control folder that you just copied to My Documents (NOT the iPod_Control that is on your iPod!) by right-clicking on it. Scroll down to Properties. Then uncheck the Hidden attribute. A message will pop up and ask if you want to apply this to this folder, subfolders, and files. Make sure this option is chosen, and click OK. (You MUST do this step.)

    STEP 8:

    - Open iTunes. Remember that your iPod is still connected to the computer. You will get the same messages asking if you want to erase this iPod and sync it with the iTunes library, unless you chose "Do not ask me again". Click Cancel.

    STEP 9:

    - At the top, click on Edit > Preferences. Choose the "Advanced" tab. Make sure "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" are checked.

    STEP 10:

    - From iTunes, choose File (at the top) > Add Folder to Library. Navigate to the iPod_Control folder and click OK.

    STEP 11:

    - The files will begin to copy into your iTunes library. You might want to take this time to write down all your playlists, because when you sync your iPod again you'll lose them.

    STEP 12:

    - After your library fills up, simply click on your iPod under Devices and sync it! It will ask if you want to erase the songs and sync. Just click Yes. It doesn't matter now because all of your songs are on your computer.

  6. 0_o hmm, its most likely freezing. i'd check for viruses, even thought its new. u never know.

^_^OH!! wut u shuld do is press ctrk=alt=delete and go to task manager, if it says its not running then that means its freezing. u shuld call itunes. thats the best way.

  7. when you hook up your ipod to the computer click on your ipod icon and change your ipod from sync mode to manual and then you can get music from any computer but you just have to drag and drop it.
