Synergy Russian Sailing Team clinches first race of 2011 Region of Murcia Trophy: Audi MedCup Circuit
Synergy Russian Sailing Team has maintained their good record of making superb starts after they clinched the very first race of 2011 Region of Murcia Trophy at Cartagena in Spain. The
Russian team are looking forward to perform up to the mark during the event to improve their overall standings in the event as well as in the 2011 Audi MedCup Circuit.
The Synergy Russian Sailing team’s crew members, including tactician Rod Dawson from New Zealand, helm Eugeniy Neugodnikov from Russia and the navigator Francesco Mongelli of Italy contributed
to take their team on top of the fleet under very light wind conditions in Cartagena. They led the fleet from first windward mark ahead of Jose Cusi’s Bribon from Spain.
Speaking to the local media at the end of the first race on Day 1, Synergy Russian Sailing Team’s tactician Dawson said, “A really light day here, with tricky conditions, we sort of had
a plan to get to the left side of the racecourse and that paid off well up the first beat. At the first mark we managed to stay ahead of Bribón and we stayed there the whole race.”
He added, “It was really close until the end but we managed to hold them off at the end. It´s a good start for us, hopefully we can get going with good results. I think that the boat is
pretty good in light conditions, we are really happy about it, but having said that, the boat loves sailing is 15-20 knots conditions.”
The overall standings at the end of Day 1 of 2011 Region of Murcia Trophy at Cartagena are given below:

3. Quantum Racing (USA) = 3 points
4. Audi Sailing Team Powered by All4One (GER/FR) = 4 points
5. Audi Azzurra Sailing Team (ITA) = 5 points

7. Container (GER) = 7 points
8. Gladiator (GBR) = 9 DNC
