I'me seen this many times where someone recorded a sound and then play it in different notes. Please let me know...

    Recording/ sampling

    You record a sound (via a microphone, or a built-in mic) with a sampler.

    The mic and sampler might be separate (like in a studio). [Are there machines with everything built into them? Maybe.]

    Transposing

    This refers to shifting a note, electronically, either up or down, with either a keyboard (synth), or with music software.

    Transposing Purely With Software

    Of course, if you have the right music software (Cubase, or Acid Pro, or Protools), you can record the sound first (either directly into your computer’s soundcard – if you wish - or, record it anywhere you like, with a portable device), transfer the sound into your computer, then use the music software to transpose it on your computer -  without even using a ‘hardware’ sampler machine or a synth.
