Syo Uchida conquers Men’s 400m freestyle heats: Day one - Tatsumi International Pool, Tokyo
Syo Uchida conquered the preliminary rounds of Men’s 400m freestyle on opening day of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Monday, April 2.
Uchida faced tough competition from his competitors in the first half of the swim but with his tremendous efforts and powerful strokes, he succeeded in surpassing them over the finishing end and reached the final round as top contender for gold medal.
With his impeccable effort in the mediocre-distance freestyle discipline, he remained nearly half body length ahead of Youhei Takiguchi, and clocked an effort of 3 minutes and 51.09 seconds.
His closest swimmer, Takiguchi remained 0.42 seconds slower from him and transpired on the finishing wall as second best swimmer with the timing of 3 minutes and 51.51 seconds.
The third qualification spot of the discipline was obtained by Keita Moteki, who remained only 0.40 seconds slower from his former finisher and posted a time of 3 minutes and 51.91 seconds.
Similarly, Moteki stayed 0.61 seconds ahead of Kouhei Yamamoto, who completed his swim in fourth best place by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 52.52 seconds.
Next was the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM), where Miho Takahashi upset her rivals and produced an effort of 4 minutes and 39.04 seconds to qualify for the final round.
She was followed by Maiko Fujino, who remained nearly two strokes slower from her preceding swimmer and entered the final round as second best swimmer by posting an effort of 4 minutes and 39.42 seconds.
Fujino’s wonderful effort was chased by Miyu Ohtsuka, who stayed 2.20 seconds slower from her former finisher and emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 41.62 seconds for third position.
The fourth finest qualification spot of the discipline was occupied by Masami Uchikoshi, who remained nearly half a second behind and made her way into the playoff by touching the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 42.01 seconds.
In addition, the arena acknowledged commendable efforts of all participants in the first round while these finalists will contend with each other in their respective playoffs.
