Question:

Syracuse NY or Rochester NY?

I'm originally from upstate NY and moved south for school. I have one year left before I graduate and although I love the sunshine I cannot take the roaches/bugs. I miss my family, having seasons (fall is my fav), wearing uggs and hoodies and I also miss the dive bars with deer heads on the wall. I have lived in Syracuse before and I liked it but I'm also considering Rochester. Which city has more to offer? Which has hotter boys? Where are the people friendlier and laid back? Any suggestions? ? ?

  1. I grew up in Syracuse and Went to College in Rochester.  I like both cities, but for someone your age, I think Rochester has a lot more to offer.

    Lets do a Competition:

It's upstate, so they both have dive bars with Deer Heads.

    TIE

    Rochester - 1

    Syracuse - 1

Syracuse is a lot smaller and has a LOT less jobs.  The Economy in Rochester isn't booming, but there is a lot more around in the way of Jobs and New Things opening up.

    WINNER - ROCHESTER

    Rochester - 2

    Syracuse - 1

I'm a guy so I'm not gunna go in to too much analysis of the hot guy category.  All I'll say is that there are more young people in Rochester.  Rochester Area has more colleges (UofR, RIT, St. John Fisher, Naz, MCC, Geneseo) to Syracuse's SU, Lemoyne, and OCC.  We'll just call it a tie.

    TIE

    Rochester - 3

    Syracuse - 2

One thing I always loved about Rochester was the people and the atmosphere.  Don't get me wrong, everyone in Syracuse is nice, and they are only an hour apart so the people are the same, but you just get the feeling there is a lot more going on in Rochester and the people are happier.  I lived downtown on the East End where a lot of the College Students live.  On the weekends in the summer there were always people out jogging and at cafes having food and drinks.  Syracuse doesn't have that same feeling downtown.

    WINNER - ROCHESTER

    Rochester - 4

    Syracuse - 2

    Other things to consider:

If your looking for a more "Homey" feel, meaning small town, no sense of urgency, etc. Syracuse is better for that.  Less Traffic, Smaller Area.

If your a Sports Fan, Syracuse University GENERALLY has good sports teams.  As of late, they haven't been as stelar.  Because Rochester has no Big Unversity or Pro Teams, they generally Latch on to Syracuse Unversity sports and Pro Buffalo Sports.

For Overall Night Life (Other than the deer head places) Rochester is nicer than Syracuse.  It's not a lot bigger, but it is still bigger and there are a lot more young people out because of all of the universities.

In my opinion, Rochester wins, especially for a young person looking for nightlife and a good job.

    Hope that helped.
