Syracuse Orange, Baylor Bears and Virginia Cavaliers win – NCAA Basketball Roundup November 29
Five games took place in NCAA on November 29, 2011. Here is a brief review of the games:
Syracuse Orange 84 - Eastern Michigan Eagles 48
James Southerland came off the bench with a career-high 19 points, five rebounds and three steals as Syracuse Orange cruised past Eastern Michigan Eagles 84-48 at Carrier Dome. It was seventh consecutive victory for Syracuse, who
won four in a row since their assistant coach Bernie Fine was accused two weeks ago of molesting two former ball boys.
Brandon Triche had 12 points and four assist while Kris Joseph ended with 11 points and four rebounds for Syracuse, who beat Stanford 69-63 in the previous game- their closest game of this season.
Darrell Lampley led the Michigan Eagles with 19 points on 6 for 9 shooting from the floor, including 3 for 5 from three-point range.
The Eastern Michigan held a 21-18 lead early in the first half but Syracuse Orange reeled off a 7-0 run for a 25-21 lead with five minutes remaining. The Eagles cut the margin to four late in the half but Syracuse recorded four
consecutive points in the closing minutes to take a 32-24 lead into the second. Syracuse stretched their lead to 16-point early in the second half and did not trail for rest of the game.
Baylor Bears 90 - Prairie View A&M Panthers 54
Perry Jones III racked up 27 points in his season debut as Baylor Bears beat Prairie View A&M Panthers 90-54 at Ferrell Center, Waco. With this victory, the Bears wrapped up their season-opening six-game home stand undefeated.
On the other hand, it was sixth straight loss for the A&M Panthers.
Pierre Jackson contributed 17 points, eight assists and four rebounds while Quincy Acy recorded a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Cory Jefferson added 12 points while Deuce Bello finished with 10 points
in the victory.
Montreal Scott headed the Panthers with 14 points while Jules Montgomery recoded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Prairie View scored the first eight points of the game to take initial lead. However, the Baylor Bears tied the game at 13-13 and immediately reeled off a 33-11 run for a 46-24 lead after opening half.
The Bears pushed their lead to two-point, 53-33, early in the second half and maintained their double-digit lead until the end.
Virginia Cavaliers 70 - Michigan Wolverines 58
Mike Scott had 18 points and 11 rebounds as Virginia Cavaliers won fourth straight game of the Big Ten-ACC Challenge with a 70-58 win over Michigan Wolverines at John Paul Jones Arena, Charlottesville.
Joe Harris posted 18 points, Malcolm Brogdon came off the bench with 16 points while Sammy Zeglinski finished with 11 points in the victory.
Zack Novak topped Michigan with 12 points while Trey Burke finished with 11 points, four rebounds and four assists for Michigan, who dropped to 5-2.
The Wolverines got off to an impressive start this time and build a 19-14 lead but Virginia went on a 10-4 run in the last two minutes of the first half for a 24-23 lead into the second.
Michigan were back into the game early in the second half as they went ahead by 41-38. However, Virginia took the charge of the con test with an unbeatable 15-0 run and did not look back.
