These two countries, amoung others being involved, have been fighting longer than the US being a country. What does President Bush being in office change anything for Syria to start peace talks?

  1. Why should I read your link if you're going to make the most ignorant assertion that Israel and Syria have been fighting "longer than the US being a country"?

You see, folks, this is why the US should stop interfering in other people's conflicts: If you can be this ignorant there's no need for you to try to help anyone.

Israel and Syria became countries less a 100 years ago, the US just had its 232nd. anniversary.

Bush has certainly not made things easier by insisting that Syria and Israel negotiate without taking into consideration what international law has to say about their conflict.

That's why Syria doesn't want to continue talks as long as Bush is in power deciding where international law will applies(Saddam's Iraq) and where it doesn't.

Edit: FYI, sir, most Jews that were in Palestine before Israel was created came to Palestine AFTER WW2. In fact, it wasn't until 1996, 48 years after Israel's creation, that Israel for the first time elected an Israeli Prime Minister who was actually born in Israel.

Before then all Israeli heads of state were from Europe.

So this "religious battle" only exists in your head and was never part of the political landscape in the Middle East until 1948.

  2. Israel was established after WWII.  That was quite a while after the U.S. became a country.  Now, the other folks in the Middle-East have been fighting each other much longer than that--pretty much as long as recorded history.  So if you think the destruction of Israel will end the fighting, think again.

  3. Assad simply realizes that Bush knows who (and what) he is, and he's hoping babe-in-the-woods Obama can be suckered into selling Israel down the river. Israel, BTW, was not a country until sixty years ago, and Damascus has been trying to make it go away that whole time.
