Syrian Hamster Question?

My hamster is 1 and a half (more or less) years old. She recently had an eye infection and managed to recover. We took her on holiday in a smaller cage and she seemed very happy there. Now we are home and we moved her back into her bigger cage she seems very lethargic and is acting a little strangley. Should I move her back into the smaller cage were she seemed more secure and happy or is this just a sign of old age?

  1. try connecting the cages with some tubes. ( you can buy connecters for wire cages at pet stores ). then you can see which one she likes better. disconnect the one she doesn't use.

  2. no i would leave her in the bigger cage because she gets more living space there. don't worry this must be just an adjustment. just make sure she eats and is not in pain. if she acts really strangely, doesn't eat, is bleeding or just sad all the time, take her to the vet again.

    good luck)

  3. This may be a sign of old age, but most probably your hamster isn't used to it's big cage yet.

Hamsters don't like to be shifted to new cages again and again, and they need time to adjust themselves to their new home (similar to homesickness) so, your hamster is behaving that way.

After all, it was in a different cage before!

Just leave your hamster in the big cage and don't play a lot with it fora while...just fill his food bowl and water bottle as usual and let your hammy adjust to it's new environment.

    It takes time.

Very soon, your hammy will be acting normal.

I wish you and your hamster all the very best.
