Which one should I get. Should I get a Syrian Hamster, Dwarf Hamster or Teddy Hamster. If I get a Syrian, I know that I should get one. Dwarf, I might get 2 of the same s*x. Teddy I might get 1. I just need to know which one I should get.

I want a hamster thats easy to tame, wants to jump into my hand, and doesn't bite too much. Which one?

  1. First of all Teddys and syrians are the same breed. Teddy bears are just a "style" of hamster. See this page for other "sub breeds" of syrains. http://www.freewebs.com/happyhamsterhelp...

    Your questions:

    1. Syrains if this is your first hamster. They are much calmer and friendlyier. They are also easier to handle. They come in a wide variety of colors also.

    2. One. Srry but you can not get more than one syrain hamster because they will fight. Also one hamster is easier to handle and afford.

    3. Bin cage or this critter trail(http://www.petco.com/product/11499/Super... but bin cages are a lot cheaper. Here is a site, though to secide which cage is best for you http://www.freewebs.com/happyhamsterhelp...

Oh and i like the white spotted ones best(dalmation coat) I think they are super cute!

EDIT: Hamsters live 2-3 years depending on how good you take care of it. Also they may live up to 5 years

  2. A Teddy Bear hamster is a Syrian, It's just a fancy name for them. I've also heard Syrians are much sweeter than other breeds. Dwarf hamsters are cute but they are More grouchy(so I've heard. Also I know some1 with a dwar and it bites) and prone to diabetes. So you need t be careful on what you feed them because their food might have sugar so if you get a dwarf hamster research on what you can and cannot feed it But if  were you I would do research on the types of hamsters and pick one yourself. Because its really not up 2 us bcause we aren't the one tat have to keep it. So it is really up to you. Good Luck!!! (a hamster's lifespan is 2-3 years with good care)

  3. 1.get a teddy

2.only get one cuz hamsters dont usually live well together

3.dont get one w/ alot of tubing because they're harder to clean, just get a metal wire one

4.any food found at a pet store should be okay

    5.Blonde

    6.around 2-3 years

  4. well, teddy is a TYPE fo syrian first of all. so they are the same exact thing.  teddy is just classifying the color of the syrian.  if you get dwarfs, chinese are best.  also, understand that no hamster will jump into your hand and not bite AT ALL.  they will bite, ecspecially at first.  you want one that WILL jump into your hamd the very first day you get them and want to come out and play rather than run and bite and are even easier to train and doesn't bite as much or as hard then you shud get two same-s*x gerbils. they are much better than any type of hamster.

color is a preference and also what the store has.  lifespan for hamsters is 2-3.5 years and and gerbils is 3-5 years.  they can live shorter depending on sickness, care, and otehr factors. both my hammies lived under a year and i took good care of them.  my gerbils (currently) hopefully live much much longer. get one hamster if you dont want fights. even sibs can get into fights so only one. gerbils need a same s*x friend or they get lonely and mean.  a spacious cage with carefresh bedding is best.  nutriphase food is best for both gerbils and hamsters. be sure to get a wheel and ball for excercise and chew sticks because teeth continually grow for both pets.  empty toliet paper rolls are favorites for my gerbils for them to chew on and roll in and crawl thru.  make sure you get petstore chewsticks tho too.  make sure to clean the cage every week for hamsters and every 2 weeks for gerbils.  look for the most curious in the cage and that will be the nicest there. look for clear eyes, smooth, soft coat, no missing hair or red dots(mites) and be sure to hold it before you leave.  hamster bites can hurt unless its a nip but gerbils will never hurt for more than 3 secs unless you make them really mad. my hamsters bit and broke skin but my gerbils just test bite.  dont be afraid and let them come to you. this will take longer with hamsters. gerbils will come right away.  good luck! and dont wake a sleeping hamster (they sleep in the day) they will bite. and hard.  gerbils r nice when they are woken and sleep mostly at night.  dont pull gerbils tails.  they will come off! good luck!!!

  5. Dwarfs are more like play hammys. I would recomend them.

Syrian  and Teddy hammys are for more serious people. They are great too.
