System Restore and Virus Problems?

Hey.

I'm trying to system restore but when i click restore to an earlier time it's not allowing me to select a previous month or even a previous date. I need to restore my computer to an earlier date due to a virus i have at the moment. I think that the virus is windows xp antivirus 2008. Every hour or so my computer undergoes a system shutdown as the countdown clock appears. Can someone please help!

What can i do?

All comments are so very much appreciated. Many thanks!

  1. Your computer is infected with rogue software. Download and run rogue antispyware removal tool from http://www.spywaregeeks.com to remove the rogue software from the computer.

  2. Most likely you don't have any restore points, since you can't find or select any.

Only solution seems to be a reformat and reinstallation.

BTW the command mentioned above is shutdown -a, and it should be typed in the "Run" box.

  3. I have a 6 year old HP desktop and just got hit with my very first trojan horse, which led to other trojans (first SHeur.CCXR and then JS/Downloader.Agent and Adload_r.AQ). Without going into detail, the result was chaos.

These bad horses kept advising me to buy Antivirus 2009, which is a hoax. Anyway, your problem is probably Antivirus 2008. For info, go to http://www.wiki-security.com/wiki/ov_Par...

Then download the SpyHunter Spyware Detection Tool (near the top of the page) to get rid of Antivirus 2008. The advice from Sly Old Mole in the previous answer is likely to be more or less the same thing, and possibly even better.

FYI:  According to a computer guru from PCWorld.com, some of the best antivirus programs are BitDefender, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, AVG, Trend Micro, Avast, ClamAV, F-Prot, F-Secure, Kaspersky, McAfee, and Symantec.

    Lots of luck.

  4. Update your Windows XP with Windows Update!!!!

This happens 99% of the time on old versions of XP.  It has to do with the second you connect to the internet.  The new service packs will fix it.

I will post the command you can run to stop the shutdown if someone else doesn't get to it first.

Ok, to stop the computer from shutting down, do the following:

    1. Open command promt.  (Click run > type cmd)

    2. Type "shutdown -a" without the quotes

The shutdown will abort.  Then update your system, I believe that is the problem.
