The System Tray on my computer does not display open programs that are minimized on the computer. This in only on one user. All the other users have the ability to utilize the system tray. When I go to Properties to try to click on "Hide Inactive notifications" It is shaded out like I can't select it. I can how ever click on "Show Clock". But I cant select anything else in that Notification area in the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" area? How can I change this?

  1. This is mostly happen if your account is limited too much. Since you don't experienced this problem with other account, you can either make another account same as like this and delete the account.

  2. I never heard of that before try system restore

  3. Try to check whether that user account can customize your desktop or not. Maybe that is a guest account.

  4. If you are not the administator for the computer you will not be able to fix the problem.

Get on the administator account and find your account then change the securitys for the account there should be that option in control panel.   If not then you will have to find the securitys for the account throught the admid account.  Who ever set up your computer knows what they are doing so this could be time comsuming to find.

  5. Open Notepad and copy the following without first and last quotes:

    "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\...

    "NoTrayItemsDisplay"=dword:00000000"

Paste that into the notepad and save the document on your desktop.

Now open my computer, go to the "Tools" menu at the top of your screen.

    Click "Folder Options".

    Change to the "View Tab"

Make sure "Hide Extensions for Known File Types" is unchecked.

Go back to the file on the desktop and rename it to "blabla.reg"

    Double click the file.

    Click "Yes".

    Click "OK".

Hope that fixes the problem =)

If you want to get rid of the extensions again (for example .txt or .reg) go back to Tools > Folder Options and check Hide Known File Extensions and click OK.
