T-20 Cricket: Glamorgan Beat Surrey By 10 Runs

T-20 cricket in England is in full flow, Friends provident T-20 continues as Glamorgan beat Surrey by 10 runs at Cardiff. Batting first, Glamorgan scored 164 for 8 while Surrey fell short by 10 runs in the end.

Surrey won the toss and chose to field first, as they have a habit of chasing down scores with ease in the T-20 format. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glamorgan-c784 got off to a blazing start as Australian Cosgrove was in scintillating form and his partner Allenby was not far behind.

The opening pair took full advantage of the early field restrictions and dispatched the Surrey attack to all corners of the ground. Cosgrave was very harsh with anything pitched slightly fuller. The strong left hander used his big willow to carve the ball through the covers repeatedly, and as soon as anything was within his legs he did not think twice to chip it over the leg side.

Allenby was batting in more of a traditional but still aggressive mode; he kept the ball mostly along the carpet as he continued to drive the ball through midwicket and extra cover regions. The opening pair added 75 before Allenby was caught by Spriegel off the bowling of Meaker, he scored 34 runs from 25 balls with 4 fours and a six.

The next man, Maynard, was dismissed on the very first ball as he edged one to the keeper. Dalrymple though, was in good nick and formed another good partnership with Cosgrove and the pair added 70 runs before Cosgrove was caught by Roy off the bowling of Tremlet, he scored 76 runs from 53 balls with 9 fours and a six. Dalrymple then took on the role of the aggressor but could not find any support from the other end and the captain was run out in an effort to get the strike back. The score that looked to be heading well towards 190 plus ended at 164 for 8 in the allotted 20 over’s.

Surrey did not start well, their first wicket fall was early as the first ball, Davies was caught behind by Croft for naught. Lancefield and Roy put on a 36 run stand for the 2nd wicket, Roy was bowled by Ashling after scoring 17 runs from 12 balls with one six. Lancefield followed soon after and scored 22 runs from 22 balls with 3 fours. The target was still looking likely and the required rate was under control.

Walters and Australian Andrew Symonds put on a good stand of 46 runs in 5 over’s or so, but their big hitting all rounder, Symonds, was caught well in the deep by Rees, off the excellent bowling of Dalrymple. He scored 22 runs from 16 balls with one four and a six.

Spriegel did not last long and was cleaned up by Dalrymple off the very first ball, Walters was stranded at the other end as he pleaded to get the strike back, but to his frustration, the wickets kept tumbling at the other end. Walters finally got the strike and knew it was all up to him. He started firing huge shots all around the field and got 3 boundaries in quick succession, and followed it up with a big six down the ground; the game was once again tilting towards Surrey.

http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 needed 25 runs from the last 2 over’s, but Nel was cleaned up by Harris on the 2nd ball of the 2nd last over and Walters remained stranded at the other end, while Meaker came in and played 3 dot balls. The final over only produced 6 runs and Surrey ended at 154, falling 10 short in the end. Walters was unbeaten at 53 from 36 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. Cosgrave was named man of the match for his 76 runs.
