Semiconductors have almost totally replaced vacuum tube devices because they waste less power.

  1. They waste less power,they are very small,they produce less heat.

Although semiconductors usually do waste less power than vacuum tubes, that wasn't the main reason they originally replaced vacuum tubes.  Rather, vacuum tubes had a relatively short lifetime and had to be replaced frequently.  Transistors, and later, integrated circuits, didn't have this problem.  Semiconductors, except possibly those used for high-power applications, were also physically much smaller than the vacuum tubes they replaced.
