T.J. Dillashaw collects unanimous win over Walel Watson in UFC on Fuel TV1 - UFC news
In one of the two bantamweight bouts televised by Fuel TV in its first ever UFC show, T.J. Dillashaw came out victorious from the octagon by collecting a unanimous win over his fellow countryman Walel Watson.
UFC on Fuel TV1 or UFC on Fuel TV: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez was the name of the pay-per-view that rattled the UFC universe all over the world especially the Omaha Civic Auditorium in Nebraska on February 15, 2012.
The three-round bout between these two young surging men was an epic show of impressive pugilism, agility, athleticism, resilience, and tactics that made the whole crowd roar with enthusiasm. Dillashaw who had been in a total 5 bouts and came out victorious
in four, was in his career’s first UFC bout.
The 26-year-old T.J collected two of his wins by submission and just one by knockout. Walel on the other hand, was the more experienced brawler since he entered the octagon a total 12 times before taking on Dillashaw. Infamous as ‘The Gazelle’, Walel won
a total nine of his 12 encounters and a huge seven by making the opponent submit.
Dillashaw was to enter the octagon against a competitor who was not only experienced but had the lethal ability to lock the opponents in submission manoeuvres that cannot be broken. In addition T.J also had the huge drawback of height. Dillashaw is 5 foot
6 whereas Gazelle is 5 foot 11 that is a huge 5 inch difference.
Dillashaw noticed all the advantages that his opponent had on him but he did not let his hope and determination fall. The bout kicked off and Dillashaw immediately threw a huge punch that shocked Walel. Instantly after the huge punch that moved the huge
Watson off his feet T.J tried to take him down and execute a submission move but his efforts went in vain since Watson not only encountered his moves but started replying in the same aggressive way.
The third round ended and after a tough decision the referees awarded the brawl to T.J giving him 30-25, 30-25 and 30-26. Dillashaw while sharing his views said, “I was showing my wrestling for all the Nebraska fans out here. I definitely stuck to the plan.
He has a super-long reach, so I had to take advantage of my wrestling pedigree. Sorry I didn't finish. I was trying and trying.”
Dillashaw made his debut UFC brawl a memorable one by winning and has now five wins in six bouts. Watson on the contrary collected his careers fourth loss and now has nine wins in his resume.
