T.J. Oshie scores twice as St. Louis Blues overtake Vancouver Canucks 3-2 -NHL Match Update
Having the Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series winners, the St. Louis Cardinals, in the building was certainly a motivating factor for the city’s hockey team as the St. Louis Blues played hard and emerged victorious against the Vancouver Canucks, 3-2,
Friday night, November 4, 2011, at the Scottrade Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, United States.
T.J. Oshie certainly played hard in terms of physicality, which paid off in the end as he scored two goals, ultimately being the factor is the Blues snapping their two-game losing streak.
"To get goals in this league, you've got to go to the tough areas", Oshie said. "Long overdue, the first 10-11 games I've been a little too perimeter. In this league you have to go to tough areas to score goals".
Alex Burrows put Vancouver Canucks ahead by one 13:13 into the opening period for his fifth of the season, but T.J. Oshie countered back in the next minute to level the contests at 1-1.
Oshie scored once again in the next period during the opening two minutes for his third goal of the regular season , which later on came out to be a crucial point in securing their victory as Ryan Kesler fired off for Vancouver’s first of the night 23 seconds
into the third.
Fortunately, David Backes scored another St. Louis goal in the next five-minutes for insuring the match in their favour as both teams did not add any more in the remaining 14 minutes.
"Stay around there and keep digging until the whistle blows", Backes said. "It's no secret that's where goals are scored in front of that blue paint. You pay a price to get there, but that's where you need to be".
Luongo was in net for Vancouver and was disappointed at the low scoring by his teammates on the St. Louis net.
"Those are unfortunately the breaks of the game. Unfortunately, that was the difference tonight", Luongo said.
Vancouver had three more remaining games on the road, with the next being against the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday, while the Blues will be visiting Minnesota on Saturday to play against the Wild.
