T. J. Yates backed again by coach for starting role in Texans game against Bengals – NFL News
Houston Texans emerging quarterback Taylor Jonathan (T.J.) Yates has been backed by Texans coach Gary Kubiak yet again for the starting role at quarterback position in their game against the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday.
T.J.Yates, whose presence in the team as a fifth round pick was almost insignificant in front of star quarterbacks Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart a couple of weeks ago, has now seemed made permanent for the starting position.
With signing of Jeff Garcia at number three the Texans seemed have finally become clear who will be leading their side at the quarterback position.
Yates has now been positioned at number one, while he will have backing of veterans Jake Delhomme and Jeff Garcia at number two and three positions, respectively.
Yates had started for the Texans in their last match against the Falcons. He was sacked three times in the game and also lost few throws but lucky for the Texans they were victorious at the end. They beat the visiting Falcons 17-10.
"Just his play, in particular, was encouraging," Kubiak said Monday. "He can get a lot better, and there are so many things he'll learn from throughout the course of the game, and watching him on tape, play that many plays."
The rookie Yates who has backing from Texans injured quarterbacks Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart will advantage of learning from veterans Garcia and Delhomme. Both players have played the game for more than a decade respectively.
Delhomme in fact has come out of retirement to join the Texans side last week. He had announced retirement from the game in February this year.
T.J. Yates however might miss Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson who is not sure yet for their next game due to an injury.
"He felt good today, but like I said, until he gets back out here, we'll have to wait and see," Kubiak said of Johnson.
Whether Johnson plays or not this will be another challenge for the rookie how well he performs at the position which all the Texans side seems backing him for. The win will be huge for the Texans as they stand closer to win the
American Football conference south division.
