T.v. that lasts 100,000 hours?

my boy just got a plasma t.v. and told me that he can get 100,000 hours outta it. i have a dlp thats less than a year old and i was told i would get something like 3000 hours. was he lied to or are the t.v.s really getting that much better? i dont know much about plasma besides the fact that i wont buy one because i am completely satisfied with my 50" dlp samsung. anyway if anyone knows anything about this i would appreciate the answers. thanks.

  1. That is somwhat true.  Plasma last usually around 60,000 hours before you will see a decrease in half the brightness in resolution compared when you first bought it.  Here is a website that describe the lifespan of a plasma television.

  2. The panel may last that much, but other components will fail well before that.

    In your case, 3,000 applies to the bulb only. After you replace the bulb, you get another 3,000 hrs (or so).
