T20I rankings will boost up the format, claims David Richardson– Cricket News Update
International Cricket Council's (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richardson-c85395, believes that inauguration of T20I rankings will give a new boost to the limited-over format of the game, and usher an atmosphere of healthy competition among all the cricketing nations.
Richardson also claims that these rankings will prove to be hallmark for the next ICC World T20, and help the world cricket governing body to ‘draw the seedings’ for the mega event that is to be held in Sri Lanka in September 2012.
Talking to the media, the GM said, “The launch of Twenty20 rankings will generate even more interest in the shortest format and will help give more context to bilateral matches.”
He further told, “We have rankings for Tests and One-Day Internationals so these rankings are a new addition and will help us draw the seedings for the next World Twenty20.”
The ICC unearthed the first ever T20I rankings on Sunday, October 23. As per the rankings, the defending champions, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, are placed on No. 5 while the winners of the
2009 edition, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, hold the 7th position.
In players’ rankings, England’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482.
Richardson is of the view that these individual and collective evaluations, made for the for first time in the history of the 20-over format will help international cricketers improve themselves and resort to a healthy competition which is likely to perk
up the standard and significance of the game.
The shorter version is rapidly gaining roots around the globe. There is a mushrooming growth of domestic T20 leagues with Indian Premier League (IPL) at the top. Some cricket experts even fear that the rising trend of the 3-hour format will precipitate the
demise of the 5-day version.
However, despite all the reservations and concerns, T20 has become the most-watched form of cricket in this era where time is money.
