TCU Horned Frogs AD shoots back at OSU
TCU Horned Frogs athletic director Chris Del Conte fired back at Ohio State Buckeyes president E. Gordon Gee on Thursday 25 November.
Del Conte took exception to comments Gee made about TCU and the Boise State Broncos, saying they did not deserve to play for a national championship, because they play small mid-major schools, while Ohio State plays in the difficult Big Ten Conference.
“I do know, having been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president, that it’s like murderer’s row every week for these schools. We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor,” Gee told the Associated Press.
Gee’s sentiment is often repeated by Bowl Championship Series purist and supporters of traditional power conferences, such as the Big Ten and the Southeastern Conference. However, in this case Gee is likely campaigning to get his school into a championship
game, while at the same time trying to discount the efforts of TSU, who are currently ranked third in the nation.
“I sat back and just thought about our football program and our coach and realized that to start throwing stones at your house, they must be jealous,” Del Conte said in an interview with Dallas radio station KESN-103.3.
The Horned Frogs have put together another tremendous season in 2010, currently sitting unbeaten at 11-0. TCU has also handily defeated traditional powers such as the Oregon State Beavers, the Baylor Bears, and the Air Force Falcons.
Ohio State has also managed another successful season, going 10-1 with their only loss coming against the 10-1 Wisconsin Badgers.
Nevertheless, Del Conte is willing to put the school’s reputation on the line against the Buckeyes.
“Anytime, anyplace, anywhere,” Del Conte challenged. “Buckeyes against the Horned Frogs. Tee it up. Let’s go.”
