TE Gronkowski doubtful for Super Bowl clash on Sunday - NFL News
New England Patriots' fans have been sweating over any news to do with tight end, Rob Gronkowski. Sadly for them, Gronkowski was officially listed as doubtful on Friday.
The in-form tight end is currently nursing an ankle sprain that would probably heal by the time Super Bowl XLVI kicks off on Sunday, with coach, Bill Belichick saying that Gronkowski did not have any setbacks after yesterday’s practice session.
The Patriots practiced with an hour-long walkthrough and all media cameras were on Gronkowski, who walked without any limp during the short training session.
"He practiced yesterday. He didn't do anything today," Patriots' coach, Bill Belichick said.
"We'll see where he's at on Sunday, but hopefully (he'll play). I saw no setbacks. He's still making progress."
Belichick will most probably play Gronkowski, if he doesn’t suffer any setbacks between today to Sunday, and this news will be like music to New England Supporters, who've waited almost four years to make a return to the playoffs.
The Patriots have played six Super Bowl Championships under Belichick, winning three of those, however, their last appearance in the coveted fixture was in 2007 when they lost to New York Giants.
Facing the Giants again this year, New England will be in vengeance mode on Sunday.
The tight end has been in brilliant form this season. Gronkowski’s brilliant combination with quarterback, Tom Brady, allowed the Patriots to storm to the Super Bowl this year.
New England ended its regular season with a 13-3 record, Gronkowski playing a vital role in that achievement.
The 22-year-old made 90 receptions for 1,327 yards this season. His 17-touchdowns are the highest for a tight end in the National Football League (NFL) this season.
Gronkowski, himself is confident of playing the Super Bowl, and on Thursday said:
"It's my body and I know how I feel the best," Gronkowski said. "I just communicate with the trainers on how I feel, what they think, and we just put all our knowledge together so we can get the best possible situation."
“I'm just trying to get better. The trainer has helped me to get to a place where I need to be."
Now Patriots' fans just have to wait till Sunday for the final team roster to see if their star player will take to the field in the biggest stage of all.
