TE Heath Miller integral part of Pittsburgh Steelers OC Todd Haley’s system-NFL News
Pittsburgh Steelers new offensive coordinator, Todd Haley, who has some difficulties in building a workable relationship with the incumbent veteran quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, is expected to be in good terms with tight end, Heath Miller.
Miller’s position is switched to play a receiver’s role under the new system of the offensive coach. Apparently, the coordinator has full backing of head coach, Mike Tomlin.
Tomlin weighs the move as an integral part of their plan and strategy for the team, having great expectations that it will work out for them effectively.
Tomlin said:
"Haley is excited about what Heath Miller is capable of. He's been very clear about that, his excitement to work with Miller. I would imagine that the tight end is going to be a part of our plan."
It is also seen even benefiting the player as he will able to further develop his game. Miller himself has spoken of potential for learning out of the planned shift.
The tight end said:
"I definitely see opportunities for that to happen," Miller said. "That's not to say there weren't opportunities in the last offense. We (the tight ends) are going to be involved a lot."
Although still far from implementation in real game conditions, which will prove credibility of the decision, it is seen providing additional option in the team’s receivers’ situation.
It is also expected to ease some pressure on the new coach, who has been through a hard time in convincing Ben that his workout method for Steelers’ attack is worth credibility.
Ben considers adapting to the workout scheme of the new offensive coordinator as learning a new language.
After spending the first day of organised team activities (OTAs) on the field, the QB said that Steelers had learnt equivalent of saying ‘Hello’, which, in spite of no reaction from the coach, was not a welcome remark.
Further, the QB said that the way Haley had started working at very basic things, he felt himself back in his rookie year.
In spite of Ben’s criticism, Haley has continued his workout regime for Steelers.
