TE Maurice Stovall signs with Jacksonville Jaguars to replace Stephen Spach – NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars have confirmed making a couple of changes on the defensive position while adding another player to their practice squad.
As per details emerged around the changes, the team has signed tight end Maurice Stovall, who has experience of several years on his resume, and he will replace another tight end Stephen Spach on the roster.
Spach’s exit has come only nine days after his inclusion on the roster. He also played last weekend’s game against Houston Texans.
Although the team has not disclosed motives of letting Spach go, his dismal performance appears to be the only reason behind the Jaguars’ move of his release.
He has been replaced by Stovall. None of the stakeholders has disclosed terms of Stovall's deal. This includes value and tenure of the contract.
Stovall is a third-round selection out of the 2006 draft by Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had joined the pro league as a receiver but later switched to the tight end position. The TE spent five consecutive seasons with the Buccaneers and then joined the Detroit
Lions in 2011.
The player has played as many as 71 games including 11 games on the starting position. Now the Jaguars hope to make the most of the veteran’s experience. It is to be seen how successful he is.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars have added guard Austin Pasztor to the practice squad. The Canadian has played college league from Virginia.
The Minnesota Vikings had signed Pasztor as an undrafted free agent earlier this year but then released him in August.
He was a victim of the roster-slash drive that is implemented by all teams in post-training camp time to keep their rosters within limit of 53 players each, prescribed by the professional football league regulator National Football League.
The Jaguars have started the season rather poorly, losing their both games while there are already a number of questions popping up about their prospects this season. It is a challenge for first-year coach Mike Mularkey to turn around the team.
