Question:

TEACH grant?

There is supposedly a new grant this year for people who want to become teachers. Apparently you get $4000 a year if you teach in certain areas (math, science) and you agree to teach in low income cities or counties for four years. Anyone have anymore info on this, or plan to use it themselves?

  1. Yes, there is a TEACH Grant

Here is the complete information on the TEACH grant from the government website including eligibility

  2. I just don't like the idea that you must serve in low-income HS for a total of 4 years for EACH grant you receive... so if you plan on using them throughout you whole undergraduate time you'll end up having to stay for up to 16 years teaching otherwise you pay. No opportunity for growth here! say you wanted to go for a Masters so you can teach in a higher education field (earn more money) you won't be able to do it!.. which is what I'm planning.. but who knows.. I might not have a choice and go with at least 2 years once I'm no longer eligible for the Pell Grant.. But on the whole.. its a pretty decent opportunity for a lot of prospective teachers..
