  1. Favorites: foreign languages, especially Latin (I took several different languages while in high school). I know most people don't like it, but I really enjoy grammar. I think it's fun to see how parts of sentences all fit together.

    I also liked science a lot, especially bio. If I weren't a language teacher now, I'd be a scientist. I think it's just my preferred way of thinking about things - I like subjects where you have to be detail-oriented and precise, and science and grammar are both like that.

    Least favorite: probably math, once I got into high school. I didn't see the relevance of it to what I wanted to be when I graduated. I do think math is important for students - a lot of them will get jobs where they need advanced math, and I think all of them should take it, just in case. I just happened to be one of the ones who didn't need it as much later on.

    I'd guess that almost all high school teachers are teaching the subject that was their favorite back when they were a student.


  2. Favorite was history - that's why I teach it!

    Least favorite was French - I wasn't good at it and I didn't see the point of learning it.
