the bottom line, any ISP is better than Telstra Big Pong.

The problem is that Telstra have the monopoly OUR area.

There are no other EXCHANGES We have a sub exchange

off another suburbs exchange.

I had a Big_Pong Unlimited account a few years ago and Telstra

just changed the contract to a 3 gig plan.

They changed my PLAN then charged me to break my contract.

Totally agree, it's rape & pillage, but there is strategy u might want to try. I got one of those calls from Bombay or Calcutta last year. Just before I hung up the lady said something about telstra. Fast forward I got a package deal on cable internet and unlimited phone calls anywhere in Aus at any time. Its called Ultimate Homeline and Broadband bundle. It costs $120/m flat fee. (They'll quote a higher price. Hang in there and tell them your friend doesn't pay that much)  I immediately dumped Internode and their crappy VoIP service. Lived happily ever after.
