  1. What you should do is ask someone who knows how to play tennis to teach you to play. Therefore, after yuo learn the basics, you can play against other people and learn te game while improving!!

  2. If you have a friend who play tennis you can practice with them. Or you can hit the ball against a wall.

Most Americans start sports around the age of maybe 7 or 8. It all depends on how intense the parents are, and if they played that sport, they usually want there kid to play it.

  3. yeah, americans tend to start playing sports at about 4 years old. I however, didn't. I tried a bunch of diff sports when I was younger... but you could try soccer.. u could practice it in the summer.. even tennis you and a friend could go out to the courts and play.. there's a bunch of diff sports. Basketball you can practice too. find whice you like the most and go with that one. in a private school you will most likely make the team bc there aren't as many kids/competition as there are in a public school. good luck though.

  4. They start as soon as they can walk.

  5. I was in your exact same position my freshman year in school. I had never played tennis in my life, but I knew that I wanted to join the team. I didn’t have much money for lessons, so I had to figure out a different way to learn. The summer before my freshman I bought a book on the basics of tennis and learned all the fundamentals before the season started. I knew that many of the students had played before and were more skillful, but I worked hard on my conditioning and hoped that my newfound athleticism would make up for the years of not playing tennis. Luckily for me, I was able to make the team and progressed into a fairly good player with hard work and lots of hours of practice. I won the doubles championships my junior year in our league as well as placing 4th in singles my senior year.

Just remember to stick to the fundamentals and the biomechanics because proper form can take you a long way in a match and will help you progress faster. It’ll be painstaking and hard, but you have to do it in order for your muscles to commit these techniques to memory. The wall is your friend, so use it to your advantage. Also, just like what everyone else said, find friends to play with you because it’ll make this process a lot more enjoyable. Have fun!

  6. If you're going to try tennis, I hope your family is wiling to invest a decent amount of money.  Otherwise it'll be tough.  I guess you could spend hours everyday serving if you have no one else to hit with.

Otherwise I'd suggest doing track & field.  It doesn't require any skills other than being in shape.  You can just go running & sprinting 2 to 3 hours a day, listening to your ipod.  Another sport is swimming if you have access to a pool for hours everyday.

  7. Hey!  It's never too late to start!  it sounds like you have a lot of motivation.  You have the racket, and the tennis balls, I bet you're ready to head out to the court!  SLAP ON YOUR BREAKS!  Before you head out, I would advise that you watch a few tennis videos.  Get the basic swings down before you head out.  Practice your form for forehands, backhands, and serves.  The best way to improve is to take tennis lessons and practice a lot.  Also, if you are able to, record yourself while you play tennis, it will help you see what is wrong with your forms and where you need to improve.

As to when do most American kids start to play sports...usually around the time we are in kindergarter (before first grade).  I am sure you can make the team if you practice.  Good Luck!

  8. I tried out for the tennis team also, and I'm about to be a senior. Sorry you didn't make the team, you should try volleyball, that's another good sport.

  10. im from Poland and i started many sports at a very young age. You should try and play sports even though there may not be roughs.

  11. Try practising by getting a ball and a racket and hitting the ball against a wall, let it bounce off and thenhit it back and s on.

Also you could get a friend and go to your local tennis courts and just play! Or get them to throw the ball over o you in different positions.

Just have fun with it! You'll think of some really clever ways to practise!

American kids start playing sports from birth!
