TGR Studios launched by Teton Gravity Research – Action sports
The Jackson Hole-based ski and action sports entertainment company, Teton Gravity Research (TGR), has made an official leap into commercial filming with its recently launched production house, the Teton Gravity Research Studios (TGR Studios). The new production
house specialises in producing high definition (HD) video. The content from the recently launched Studio will allow TGR to expand its presence on the web, enabling it to add blog posts, video clips and real time coverage of in-progress projects.
Talking to a leading sports network, the co-founder of TGR, Todd Jones, said that they have increased the number of their main components. These components include their merchandise, their website and their productions. The company is focusing on the expansion
of these different businesses. That is where the inspiration for the new TGR Studios came from. The co-founder said that the company realised there was a huge opportunity for them to provide content and production to a huge number of other companies by creating
their own production house.
“We have been deeply embedded in digital distribution and the online space for a long time now,” Jones said. “We are now seeing tons of companies ... that have a need for newer types of content to fill the new distribution space in the online world.”
Jones further added that TGR now has a chance to use its new camera technology to help them compete with the other larger production companies. The Jones further continued that, “This space is nothing new for us, but we saw an opportunity to take what we
have been doing and expand on it. [We] can now compete on a level with the big LA production houses.”
According to Jones, TGR formally completed the creation of the Studios eight months ago in September 2010. The action sports entertainment company took Jon Klaczkiewicz on board for the Studios and made him the head of productions in September. Klaczkiewicz’s
association with TGR is nothing new. He has worked with the company very early in his career and had supervised the elements for the company’s first exclusive snowboarding film “Deeper”, which was released last year. Jones explained that the new head of production’s
primary goal was to launch the TGR Studios and also develop an infrastructure that will allow the branch grow.
Created in 1995, TGR has been making an impact in the action sports film industry for quite a while now. It has been capturing, celebrating and bringing the passion and enthusiasm associated with action sports to life. The company has directed and produced
shows on Fuel TV, network and cable television. It has also released feature length films. Some of the most recent films include Deeper and Light the Wick.
The Studios is currently working on two new feature films. The first one is Further, a sequel to Jeremy Jones’ snowboard film Deeper. The second one in development is a ski film called “One for the Road.” It is expected to be released by fall this year.
