  1. Tickets are stamped before you get on the train and are manually inspected during the journey

  2. When you buy a ticket for TGV, you have two points of control:

first you have to insert it in a "composteur" (sorry, I don't know the english term...) before get into the train. If you forget it, when in the train, you have to show it quickly to a "controleur" (they often are at the bar!).

If you did, the "controleur" will inspect it during the travel.

PS: the compoteurs are flsh yellow, you see them, don't be afraid, they are everywhere in the stations

  3. You MUST stamp your ticket in a machine before you board the train. These machines can generally be found at each platform or in the train station (they are generally orange or yellow).

Once you get on the train, the conductor can come around at any time during your trip to make sure that you stamped your ticket. If the ticket was stamped he/she will punch a hole in it. You can be fined if you forget to stamp your ticket in the machine prior to boarding.

If for some reason you didn't stamp your ticket (running late, forgot ...) be sure to find the conductor before he/she finds you or explain yourself when he/she shows up.

    Hope this helps.
