THE GOVERNMENT WORK FOR DOLE PROPOSALS , how it will affect lone parents?

I am appalled at reading the government proposals stating that once achild turns 7 a single parent will have to find work (fair enough yes i agree) but if they dont then they will have to do community work for their money- im sorry but WHAT THE FOOK are they on

so they are saying lone parents have to go out picking up litter , wiping off spray paint etc - all the jobs that are given to criminals on community service?

and where are they proposing that the seven year olds go whilst the parent is working ? most schools shut at 3pm , then there 13 week holidays , the parent will have to be back to pick them up

yes your all thinking after school clubs or childminders -so who is going to pay for this childcare? remember the parent is working for dole money £60 a week , so looks like all "THE TAXPAYERS" are footing the childcare costs eh ,much more than paying the parents the measley £60 a week, back to square one we go, or they could always leave the kids homew alone during the hols and

  1. I'm sure they are on welfare if they are a single parent and NOT working and have zero income.  So technically the "TAXPAYERS" are already paying for them.  When a child is 7 years old, they should be in school full time and for after school, they do have a school "daycare" that is free in public schools, or have your child got a friends hosue after school.  I'm sure they would give reasonable hours and holidays off.  I can see how it could be unfair like to and single parent who is disabled or something, but to a person who is mooching off of our tax money already and not even trying to get a job, then yes I think they should actually get off their lazy asses and help pay back.  It's not like the have to do community service they just need to get a d**n job.

  2. If you're working for £60 a week then 2-4 hours a day will suffice, this can easily fit in between the hours of 9 and 3, I think its an excellent idea, get the lazy f'ers working for their dole, they will soon want to get a proper job.

  3. I think it's a good idea to get lazy parents to suppotr themselves and their kids. They could go as far as making them scrub toilets, and I'd still be all for it! If I'm understanding this right....you'r not good enough to support yourself, but your too good to do community work. Sounds like if you live like a bum, you get treated like one! Sounds good to me. If you don't like it...get a job and it wont effect you at all!

  4. i think that as long as the government provide free childcare for the single parents who have to do the work, then its fine.

yes, i am a sinlg emum, and have always thouhgt that single mums should do work to earn their welfare checks, but only id they get 100% free childcare!

  5. I'm a single mum to a 5yr old and have read this recently but it's not just income support, it's incapacity benefit, the whole lot, they're just trying to get as many people as possible off benefits and back into work which can't be a bad thing.  There are lots of jobs that provide flexi hours for single parents and there are grants and incentives available for childcare and going back to work/study.  The fact is that many single parents use their situation as an excuse for not returning to work, it's a cushy life for most of them, especially in the more deprived areas.  They get their £60 a week, full housing benefit and council tax, child benefit & child tax credits. I know all this b/c I used to claim myself for about a year (I left my job and studied at college for a yr to get into uni) I used to get about £120 a week in total but a lot of the single parents that get this stay at home all day doing sweet FA but it is totally possible to be a single mum and work/pursue a career.

I agree with u on the community work bit - that's just ridculous but maybe the threat of it will get some people off their backsides and stop them living off taxpayers money for no real, valid reason.

BTW: From going back to full time education I am now better off than I've ever been, there's lots of help available, especially if you're a single parent.

  6. I've got kids most of the people I work with have kids some are single parents if they can manage it why can't everyone else? Why should you get something for nothing? When my son was born my wife had her maternity leave and that was it... Yes its a struggle sometimes but that's life... I think this is the best idea the government has had for a long time...
